22nd February - 7th March For the last two weeks, Hugh Baird College staff and students have been marking Fairtrade Fortnight with lots of activities to raise awareness of Fairtrade and what it means. Driven by the Student Fairtrade Group, with guidance and support from Lecturer in Sport, Mike Carney, the highlights included stands in each foyer with give-aways and information about Fairtrade, scheduled screenings of faritrade documentaries in the refectories and a five a side football competition. On Friday, 5th March, College Governor and member of Hugh Baird's Fairtrade Steering Group, Canon Roger Driver, presented prizes to the winners of the five a side football competition. Twenty teams took part from across the College and the winners were the 'Paraguay' team, all students on the National Diploma in Sport. Team members Kevin Taylor, Daniel Kenny, Joe Bennet, Sam Baker, Liam Kavanagh and Craig Anderson all won 20. worth of High Street Vouchers each. Roger also made the draw for the winners of the Fairtrade Prize Draw. Independent Living Skills student, Natalie Moogan, won first prize of an iPod Touch, whilst second prize of an iPod Nano went to Health and Social Care student, Helen King. Special thanks also went to Joe Crawford and Danny Pickett, the two students who co-ordinated the foyer stands and DVD screening, with support from their fellow National Diploma in Sport students.
