Dental Nursing - Diploma - Level 3

The qualification focuses on direct chair-side work and support during a range of dental treatments. It includes all of the underpinning ethics, professionalism, teamwork and communication required to work as a dental nurse.

As well as studying in college you will be expected to undertake a minimum of 3 days a week work experience in a dental practice.

We will support you in finding your placement, however it is important to note that it is the learners’ responsibility to secure this vital part of the course. Securing your placement will form part of the conditions of the College provisionally offering you a place on this course. Failure to secure yourself a suitable placement could result in your offer being removed.

This course is validated by City & Guilds and the General Dental Council.

What topics/modules are covered?

  • Contribute to health and safety in the dental environment
  • Work within regulatory requirements in relation to the role of a Dental Nurse
  • Prepare and maintain environments, instruments and equipment for clinical dental procedures
  • Contribute to the production of dental images
  • Principles of infection control in the dental environment
  • Principles of managing oral disease and dental procedures

What are the entry requirements?

A minimum of 5 GCSEs grades A*-C (new grading system: 9-4). These will preferably include maths and English.

Proof of a placement from a suitable dental practice.

Please note: To gain access to this course you will need to go through a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. If you have criminal convictions or cautions, please do not be put off from applying for the course. Your acceptance on to the course will depend on the nature of any convictions and will be at the discretion of the College and your placement provider.

Study Programme

If you are aged 16-19, this qualification will form a substantial part of your study programme. The study programme has been designed to ensure that young people are fully equipped and ready to move on to the world of work or higher level courses. In addition to your main qualification, will you also get the opportunity to undertake relevant and CV bolstering work experience out in your chosen industry. You will also be supported through maths and English qualifications.
