A group of students from Thornton College have been enjoying the thrills (and so far no spills) from a weekly cycling activity, set up by the College Sports Maker.
In partnership with Active Sefton and Merseyside Sports Partnership, funding was secured through Sport England’s Sportivate programme, allowing students to access six weeks of adapted bikes sessions at Litherland Sports Park.
The sessions are delivered by Sefton Cycle Team and newly trained staff from Thornton College, and enable students to try a range of adapted bikes including; tandems, hand-cycles, tri-cycles, low-riders, quad-cycles, double hand-cycles, double-trikes and standard bikes. The sessions have been that successful, work is in progress to extend the activity and secure further funding in order to run the activity until the end of the current academic year, allowing even more students to access the activity. Even the support staff have been having a go, often being harder to stop at the end of the session than the students!
The sessions are due to run until mid-March, and have already proven to be a big hit. Any students, or student groups wanting to take part in more sport and physical activity, whatever it may be, please contact Adam (College Sports Maker)- room S301 or firstname.lastname@example.org to request new activities.
