Congratulations to our Level 3 Floristry students who took first place in their categories at the Southport Chrysanthemum and Gardening Society Spring Flower Show.
Charlotte Yates and Shanyu Xuan were encouraged to enter the competition by the College’s Floristry Technician, Emma Kelly, who also took first prize in the Open Class, as well as the National Provincial Building Society Trophy for the Best Exhibit in Floral Art!
With the competition themes celebrating The Queen’s 90th birthday, Charlotte won the Novice Class: ‘Fit for a Queen’ with her basket exhibit. Whilst Shanyu,s floral cake exhibit was awarded first in the Intermediate Class: ‘Royal Icing’.
Emma, who no stranger to competitions herself and is currently preparing her entry for the BFA Young Florist of the Year Competition at this year’s RHS Chelsea Flower Show, said:
“This was the first time Charlotte and Shanyu had entered the competition and we are all very proud of their fantastic achievement. My journey to competing at Chelsea Flower Show began with entering smaller competitions and building up my experience so I hope that this win will be a great confidence booster for the students and will inspire them to carry on competing.”
