A Hugh Baird College tutor has this week returned to college after using her skills backstage at three shows during New York Fashion Week.
Media Make Up tutor Jen Hunter from St Helens, has been working as a freelance make up artist for more than 10 years and, in addition to working on weddings and fashion shoots, has also set up her own makeup studio and has enjoyed seeing her work featured in top trade magazine Professional Beauty as well as on the website of world famous magazines, Elle and Vogue.
Jen, who has also worked at London Fashion Week, said:
“Getting to work at the cutting edge of such famous events as New York Fashion Week is something I really look forward too.”
“Working at a fashion week anywhere in the world is really hard work, and I make sure my students understand that it’s not as glamourous as they think. They have to have the right attitude if they want to be successful and can’t afraid of hard work and long hours. But I also make sure they know that the buzz you get backstage at a catwalk show is unbelievable.”
“Over the week I worked on, John Paul Ataker, Mikelsen, Samantha Leibowitz, Fesvedy and Frances Jerard. I enjoyed them all as each show was unique. I especially love working on the John Paul Ataker show, this is the third season I’ve worked on the show and this year I got the chance to work with supermodels Karlie Kloss and Taylor Hill. Looking to the future, I hope to work at other fashion shows across the world and hope to possibly take some of most talented students so they can see first hand what’s involved.”
