This course provides an access route into education at degree level. Successful completion leads to progression onto a related degree programme at UCLan. Alternatively, you may have the option of progressing onto the Foundation Degree in Engineering (Advanced Manufacturing) at the Hugh Baird University Centre. Terms and conditions apply.
The course has been written in close collaboration with students and industry professionals to develop an holistic and exciting course. The qualification is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop skills in two engineering pathways, Mechanical and Electronic.
The programme has been designed to develop knowledge and understanding of engineering as a whole. It will focus on developing the undergraduate's core study skills, electronic and mechanical technical knowledge and problem solving abilities. In addition, in respect of its importance, there will be an emphasis on building up the students’ mathematical skills to enable them to progress to Foundation Degree level and beyond.
Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to visit engineering facilities to enhance their understanding and perception of their studies. Visiting academics and employers will further enrich their experience on the course.
Teaching and learning on the course will be delivered through a range of lectures, practical workshops, research seminars, group work and project work.
Guest speakers from different areas of engineering will conduct workshops and Q&A sessions. Students will be involved in the performance of lab experiments and research activities.
Assessment will be via a combination of coursework, exams and lab work.
