This one year course provides an access route into education at degree level, guaranteeing progression for successful students onto our Foundation Degree in Engineering (Advancing Manufacturing).
The course has been written in close collaboration with an array of students and industry professionals to develop an holistic and exciting course. The qualification is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop skills in two engineering pathways, Mechanical and Electronic.
The programme has been designed to develop knowledge and understanding of engineering as a whole. It will focus on developing the undergraduate's core study skills, electronic and mechanical technical knowledge and problem solving abilities. In addition, in respect of its importance, there will be an emphasis on building up the students’ mathematical skills to enable them to progress to Foundation Degree level and beyond.
Throughout the course, students will have the opportunity to visit engineering facilities to enhance their understanding and perception of their studies. Visiting academics and employers will further enrich their experience on the course.
Core modules, include:
- Core Study Skills for Engineers
- Creative Problem Solving
- Technical Communication Skills
- Mathematical Methods
- Electronic Engineering for Advanced Manufacturing
- Mechanical Engineering for Advanced Manufacturing
Teaching and learning on the course will be delivered through a range of lectures, practical workshops, research seminars, group work and project work.
Guest speakers from different areas of engineering will conduct workshops and Q&A sessions. Students will be involved in the performance of lab experiments and research activities.
Assessment will be via a combination of coursework, exams and lab work.
