History A-level

Whilst studying A-level History, you will learn about events that have shaped the world we live in.

You will analyse the people and circumstances that shaped these events, evaluating their impact socially, politically and economically.

What topics/modules are covered?

Year 1:

  • Tudors: England, 1485-1547
  • Revolution and Dictatorship: Russia and the Soviet Union 1917-29

Year 2:

  • The Tudors: England, 1547-1603
  • Revolution and Dictatorship: Russia and the Soviet Union 1929-53
  • Civil Rights in the United States

What are the entry requirements?

If you intend to study a programme of A-levels:

  • To study a programme of A-levels (plus a re-sit in GCSE maths if needed), you will need a minimum of five GCSEs at grades 9-4 including English Language (grade 4 or above).

If you intend to study a combination of A-levels and BTEC:

  • To study a combination of A-levels and BTEC Extended Certificate (plus a re-sit in GCSE maths or English if needed), you will need a minimum of four grades 9-4 at GCSE plus 1 BTEC equivalent. If you have studied a subject at GCSE/Level 2, you must get a grade at least at 9-4/Pass, if it is to be studied.

The College will always treat each applicant as an individual. Should you not have or not expect to obtain the grades stated above, or not have relevant industry-related experience, the College would still welcome your application for this course as this will enable us to identify whether this course is, in fact, the right course for you or whether another course may be more appropriate.

All course offers will be subject to satisfactory interview and reference.

Career Path

A-level History is a sought after qualification by both employers and universities as it shows skills of analysis, independent study and the ability to put forward an argument. Former History students are now Barristers, Solicitors, Judges, Civil Servants, Bankers and Teachers.
