Connect for 16-18 Year Olds

Who is Connect for?

  • Those who are uncertain about which course they would like to study in College
  • Students who aren’t yet sure what area of employment they would like to work in

What do you learn on the Connect course?

Learners attend sessions in different areas, such as Sport, IT, Media, Horticulture and Business, learning all-round employability and service skills. They also attend Maths and English sessions to improve their reading and writing skills. You will gain qualifications in these skills as you progress through the course and you may also have the opportunity to undertake work experience to help you progress onto your preferred career path. During the year there is an opportunity to undertake a range of tasters in vocational areas to help decide on progression options for the future which include vocational courses, traineeships or into employment.

How long does the course last?

The course lasts one year and is divided into two sections:

  • Entry 3 Qualification (from September to December)
  • Level 1 Qualification (from January – June)

Connect - Entry 3 Level 1

There are no formal qualifications for our Level 1 courses.

These study programmes have been designed to prepare you to progress to study at Level 2 or to employment. These programmes not only give an insight to your chosen vocational area, but also give you the opportunity to undertake work experience and other activities that will prepare you quickly to get a job or to move on to higher levels in your chosen field. These programmes also include the development on maths and English skills.

You will need to have successfully completed a relevant Level 1 course or have 4 GCSEs at grade G (new grading system: 1) or above or have industry related experience.

We will also work with you to help you develop maths and English skills.
