The Health and Social Care Foundation Entry Year enables students to continue from their Level 3 studies, or presents an opportunity to study at degree level for students who have relevant work experience. It is suitable for those who are not yet fully prepared for Level 4 study, to be supported in accessing a foundation degree and, ultimately, an honours degree in Health and Social Care.
The main focus of the foundation year is to develop knowledge and understanding of Health and Social Care concepts, theories and practices, whilst also developing the academic study skills required for undergraduate level study. The course is designed to encourage students who work in the field of health and social care to develop their professional skills in a reflective manner. Students have the opportunity to put this into practice by attending placements within the sector which will allow them to implement transferable and employability skills whilst applying theory to practice.
Teaching and learning on the course will be delivered through a range of lectures, workshops, research seminars, group work and independent research.
Assessment will be coursework based, via a combination of essays, portfolio work, presentations and workbooks.
