Introduction to DIY and Construction Skills

The Introduction to Construction and DIY Skills course is designed to give a range of basic skills in a number of construction subject areas and prepare you to undertake minor DIY tasks at home or enter the industry in an unskilled capacity (Maintenance or Labourer).

It has been specifically developed for delivery in a training environment using simulated conditions, and the assessments are based on you demonstrating your knowledge and skills through the completion of all the requirements of the course. The course is run as a part time course comprising of a one day per week for 10 weeks.

What topics/modules are covered?

  • Brick/Blockwork
  • Plastering
  • Wall Tiling
  • Floor Tiling
  • Painting and Decorating

The course content can also be tailored to a certain degree to match the interests of the students. The final decision on course content and degree of flexibility lies with the course tutor and his/her decision is final.

What are the entry requirements?

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification. However, we ask that potential students have a keen interest in DIY and/or working in the Construction Industry.

What qualification will I gain?

College certificate.
