ICT Technician at
Hugh Baird College

Lewis attended Hugh Baird College and successfully completed the Level 3 BTEC Extended Diploma in Computer Science study programme.

Thanks to his commitment and hard work, staff helped him secure an apprenticeship as an ICT Technician at Hugh Baird College.

Lewis said:

The course really taught me so much. We learnt about networking, hardware, software, web design, programming, coding and loads more.”
The qualification was really geared towards getting you ready to move on to employment or higher level study. We enjoyed talks from guest speakers from BT and from the Army to name just two. These were excellent and gave us all lots of ideas of the different career paths we could choose.”
College was very different to school. I got to meet people like me and I have made some great friends. We were also treated like grown-ups and this really made us all grown up and take responsibility for ourselves.”
I need to mention the tutors too. They were great and made learning fun. They also made sure we were aware of job opportunities and took us to university fayres to explore our next steps.”

Lewis’ advice:

Pick a course you want to do not one that all your friends are doing. Learning something you are interested in helps to keep you on track and focussed.”
