About our College

Hugh Baird College is a large dynamic College situated in Bootle in the south of the Metropolitan Borough of Sefton and is at the heart of a very busy commercial and regeneration area. We have over 570 staff working for the College which caters for more than 5,000 students studying on 300 courses from basic skills to full honours degrees.

We work closely with the Liverpool City Region Local Enterprise Partnership and employers and are continuously reviewing and developing our curriculum offer to ensure our students have the best opportunity to progress, whether it be into employment or further study. We also want to ensure that students are able to train to the highest standards with the very best opportunities to progress.

The College has an annual turnover of over £20m and our strong financial health has allowed us to continue to invest in the College’s estates and in the quality and development of our provision. In 2014, we were inspected by Ofsted achieving a grading of “Good” with “Outstanding“ features placing us amongst the best College’s in the North West. The findings of the inspectors demonstrate the passion and commitment within our college to drive educational standards and opportunities for learners across the Liverpool City Region. It also provides a strong indication of our college ethos, which is based on an inclusive and respectful culture.

Our new, ultra-modern multi-million pound facility is the L20 building, based on Stanley Road. It was opened in 2014 and houses our dedicated University Centre. Redevelopment also includes a multi-purpose performance arts space for public events, a community library and a café with an outdoor seating area.

In September 2014, we opened the UK’s first Hospitality and Visitor Economy Career College for 14-19 year olds, in partnership with the Career College Trust, which will ensure that our students are both academically and practically prepared for the world of work within the Hospitality and Visitor Economy industries, both areas of huge employment growth in the Liverpool City Region. September 2014 also saw our first admissions to our 14 -16 College, where our students can take hands-on work-related qualifications alongside GCSEs in English, maths, science and computing.
