Support for Lecturers and Assessors

All new lecturers and Assessors at the College receive a comprehensive teaching and learning induction supported by the Head of Quality and Assistant Director’s (Teaching and Learning.) This induction will ensure you understand our College approach to delivering outstanding teaching, learning and assessment and equip you with the knowledge to contribute to delivering outstanding teaching sessions.

Your teaching & learning induction will include:

  • A 4 hour development session covering ‘Teaching Fundamentals’
  • Creating an environment for learning (behaviour for learning)
  • What does ‘outstanding learning’ look like?
  • Planning for learning – ‘Active learning’
  • Assessment for learning
  • Improving questioning as a key strategy in assessing learning
  • Planning outstanding teaching and learning


  • The structure of the College
  • Introduction to the College teaching and learning handbook
  • Introduction to the College observation process
  • Introduction to the College teaching and learning resource area

The induction process is managed over a minimum of six weeks and for each new member of staff the following support is provided:

  • Allocation of support from an Assistant Director Teaching and Learning (ADT&L)
  • Allocation of a curriculum mentor/buddy
  • Opportunity to peer observe two teaching / assessment sessions delivered by experienced staff as part of their development
  • Opportunity to attend additional sessions relating to the use of the College Virtual Learning Environment or creative use of interactive technology
  • Peer observed by (ADT&L) to receive developmental feedback prior to formal observation
  • Further developmental support thereafter should it be required
  • Formal observation through the College observation process
