Retention & Progression

The Retention and Progression Team is dedicated to ensuring that students at Hugh Baird College have as much support as they need to help them complete their courses and achieve their qualifications. We also offer the student population impartial career advice, and support and guidance in choosing and applying for university courses and attending interviews.

Made up of qualified Careers Advisors, the Retention and Progression Team are here to support any student who is having difficulties in their academic or personal life. The Retention and Progression Coordinators are here to help students overcome the barriers they face with regards to completing their course and achieving their career goals.

Services we offer:

  • Impartial careers advice and guidance
  • Higher Education guidance and UCAS application support
  • Support for young parents and ICAP students (16-18 year olds who are either in or leaving the care of Social Services, in receipt of Income Support or in receipt of DLA and ESA
  • Safeguarding

We are very proud of the positive impact the Retention and Progression and Student Services team can have on our students. 91% of the Hugh Baird College students we supported during the 2016/17 academic year went on to successfully complete their course.

Our UCAS application clinics and support are also extremely successful. 84% of Hugh Baird College students who applied for university places during 2016/17 were offered a place.

Disability & Learning Support

With an impressive range of specialist programmes, modern support software and highly trained support staff, our Disability & Learning Support Team are an excellent position to help students throughout their time at the College.

Health & Wellbeing

The College Health & Wellbeing services are delivered by a number of external agencies who work in partnership with the College Health & Wellbeing Coordinator. The Health & Wellbeing Team provide you with access to a drop-in service and educational programmes covering; volunteering opportunities, anti-bullying, sexual health, substance misuse, smoking cessation, mental wellbeing and many more.


The College offers professional and confidential support to all students experiencing personal and life challenges. The Counselling service offers students the opportunity to talk freely and privately about problems in a relaxed setting with our College Counsellor.
