Apprenticeship Details

This qualification is ideal if you work as an office manager, team leader, personal assistant or business development executive. It is suitable for any sector or industry and will develop a broad range of skills to work efficiently and increase productivity.

You will study a mixture of units designed to give you an insight into the many different areas of professional administration. You will also improve your administration skills, customer-handling skills, technical and practical skills.

Your assessor will visit you in your workplace on a monthly basis for the duration of the qualification. You will be assessed using a variety of different methods, for example, workplace observations, assignments and online tests. Where possible, your assessor will endeavour to use your daily work activities as the means of assessment.

You will also work towards a maths and English qualification as part of the apprenticeship.

You may be required to attend college for some parts of your programme, your assessor/tutor will advise.

You will study a range of topics as part of the Diploma in Business Administration qualification. These include:

  • Communicate in a business environment
  • Manage personal and professional development
  • Manage the work of an administrate function
  • Resolve administrative problems

You will also be able to choose a number of optional units which will allow you to study particular areas in more depth. These include:

  • Champion customer service
  • Encourage innovation
  • Initiate and implement operational change
  • Optimise the use of technology
  • Manage information systems

You will also study a range of modules as part of the technical qualification, including these core units for the Diploma in Business and Professional Administration:

  • Understanding organisations
  • Effective communication in business
  • Business ethics
  • Personal and professional development
  • Resource management

You will also be able to choose a number of optional units which will allow you to study particular areas in more depth. These include:

  • Planning and implementing change within business
  • Problem solving and decision making
  • Project management
  • Planning and managing customer service
  • Aged 16+
  • You must be employed within a relevant environment and demonstrate at least entry level skills in an initial Maths and English assessment.

You must have one of the following:

  • 4 GCSE's at grade 3 (old grading system D)
  • A relevant level 1 qualification
  • Evidence of the relevant knowledge, skills and behaviours required by the sector at Level 1

Most apprenticeships take between 12 - 18 months to complete.

Yes, you will be paid by your employer for the duration of your apprenticeship. You will be paid at least the government’s minimum wage rate for apprentices, £3.70. A lot of employers pay their apprentices a higher hourly wage than the minimum rate.

This is ultimately up to your employers, but more than 90% of apprentices stay in employment after their course ends.
