Apprenticeship Details

This qualification is ideal for experienced managers with substantial areas of responsibility and resource and who manage and lead medium to large teams. This qualification is suitable candidates who provide leadership in any industry or sector.   

The qualification will enable you to consolidate your management skills and experience, gain comprehensive business knowledge, and develop the technical skills you need to lead effectively at this level in a management role.

You will study a mixture of units designed to give you an insight into the many different areas of management and leadership. 

Your assessor will visit you in your workplace on a monthly basis for the duration of the qualification.  You will be assessed using a variety of different methods, for example, workplace observations, assignments and online tests. Where possible, your assessor will endeavour to use your daily work activities as the means of assessment.

You will also work towards a Maths and English qualification as part of the apprenticeship.

You will study a range of topics as part of the Diploma in Management and Leadership qualification. These include:

  • Contribute to the development of a strategic plan
  • Design business processes
  • Manage strategic change
  • Provide leadership and management

You will also be able to choose a number of optional units which will allow you to study particular areas in more depth. These include:

  • Manage strategic marketing activities
  • Manage a tendering process
  • Manage a project
  • Review the quality of customer service

You will also study a range of modules as part of the technical qualification, including these core units for the Diploma in Principles of Leadership and Management:

  • Understanding the management role to improve management performance
  • Managing improvement
  • Making a financial case
  • Developing critical thinking
  • Leading innovation and change

You will also be able to choose a number of optional units which will allow you to study particular areas in more depth. These include:

  • Becoming an effective leader
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Aged 16+
  • You must be employed within a relevant environment and provide evidence that you have the skills, knowledge and behaviours required by the sector at Level 4.
  • You must demonstrate Maths and English skills at Level 2 or above in your initial Maths and English assessment.

Below are the answers to some questions that we are often asked:

Most apprenticeships take between 12 - 18 months to complete.

Yes, you will be paid by your employer for the duration of your apprenticeship. You will be paid at least the government’s minimum wage rate for apprentices, £3.70. A lot of employers pay their apprentices a higher hourly wage than the minimum rate.

This is ultimately up to your employers, but more than 90% of apprentices stay in employment after their course ends.
