Hugh Baird College welcomes new Chair of Governors
Hugh Baird College has begun its new academic year by welcoming Geraldine Sloan as its new Chair of Governors.
A Chartered Accountant who runs her own business, Geraldine originally trained and qualified with PricewaterhouseCoopers and specialises in the not-for-profit sectors, working with education and charity organisations. She first joined the Governing Body in 2012 and served as a member of the Audit Committee for just under four years. Following a break from the Board to focus on her business, Geraldine returned to serve on the Finance and Resources Committee in 2017 and has been an active member of the Governing Body since then.
Geraldine takes over the chairpersonship from David Crosby M.B.E. Now retired, David previously enjoyed a career in the Royal Mail and subsequently owned a successful management consultancy. David was Chair of Governors for the last four years and a member of the Board for twelve years. David’s exemplary service to the College and the local community was recognised with an M.B.E. in the Queen’s New Year Honours.
It is a great honour to take over as Chair, and it is with tremendous pleasure to follow David, who has set very high standards for me to follow.
It is an exciting time to be part of Hugh Baird College. The Leadership Team and Governing Body have a new shared vision to be the best college in the country and a new set of strategic priorities. These support both our overall strategy of demand-led growth and outstanding quality in all our provisions.
I’m looking forward to supporting the vision and continue to see first-hand the positive effect the College has on our community.
Hugh Baird College’s Governing Body comprises members of the public, staff and students who offer a wide range of experience and skills. The Governors support and challenge the College leaders and ensure that the College stays true to its mission, vision and values.
Hugh Baird College Principal and Chief Executive, Rachael Hennigan, added:
On behalf of everyone at the College, I would like to say thank you to David for his dedicated service.
During his time as a Governor and Chair, he has shown tireless support for the College and has played a major role in its development. David will be greatly missed, and I would like to wish him all the very best for his retirement.
We are delighted to welcome Geraldine. She brings enormous expertise to the role of Chair, and we are very much looking forward to working with her.
