Hugh Baird University Centre Fashion and Textiles students attend the British Fashion Council Celebration
Students studying Fashion and Textiles at the Hugh Baird University Centre recently attended the British Fashion Council Celebration, held at Liverpool's Metquarter.
The Hugh Baird University Centre offers a wide range of higher education opportunities, enabling students to achieve their ambitions and progress towards successful careers. Based in the heart of the Liverpool City Region, it has a focus on developing skills, building confidence and improving career prospects. An integral component of this is offering real-world career experiences to all its students; allowing for direct insight into their future employment options.
The British Fashion Council is a not-for-profit organisation that supports, promotes and champions British fashion on a global scale. It works with designers and fashion businesses to help them become creatively and commercially resilient, with the aim of ensuring British fashion remains economically successful, creatively vibrant and internationally respected. This event provided students with the opportunity to meet designers, explore creative collaborations and network with industry professionals. Experiences such as this are invaluable in helping students connect their studies to the wider fashion industry, discover and be inspired by emerging talent and build professional relationships that can support their future careers.
Kelly Spencer, Lecturer in Fashion and Textiles, said:
This was the first opportunity for our students to attend a British Fashion Council event and gain a real insight into the behind-the-scenes workings of the fashion industry. Through years of building relationships and collaborating with industry professionals, our team has worked hard to create opportunities that bring learning to life and help our students gain valuable industry experience. Attending the British Fashion Council Celebration was a fantastic opportunity for them to make professional connections, raise their profiles and gain a greater understanding of the diverse career opportunities available within the fashion sector.
Second Year Fashion Student, Nick, added:
It was great to see Liverpool fashion highlighted at the British Fashion Council Celebration. There was lots of home-grown talent showcased in a variety of styles, and it was inspiring to see the creativity and innovation coming from the city. It was a great experience and gave me a real insight into the opportunities available within the fashion industry.
Fashion and Textiles students at the Hugh Baird University Centre have also been working alongside major retailer Matalan to further develop their experience and employability skills. These opportunities allow students to apply their learning in professional settings, build confidence in the workplace and develop the practical skills that employers are looking for.
By engaging directly with industry leaders, participating in live projects and attending prestigious events such as the British Fashion Council Celebration, students are enhancing their career prospects and developing the knowledge, networks and experience needed to succeed in the competitive fashion and textiles industry.
